B&M donate £5,000 to Claire House to help launch Lloyd Brothers Mural Appeal

B&M Waste Services Ltd, the Wirral headquartered waste management company have donated £5,000 to Claire House to help launch its Lloyd Brothers Mural Appeal.

Twins Dan and Sam Lloyd,18, and their brother Tom, 16,  suffer from a rare muscle wasting disease known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – a disease which affects one in 3,500 boys in the UK.  All three boys attend The Mosslands School in Wallasey.

This summer, The Mosslands School and Claire House have joined forces to launch the Lloyds Brothers Giant Mural Appeal.  Mosslands School invited the boys to design a 492 square foot mural which is being painted by the whole school community.  All three boys are set to leave Mosslands in a few weeks and the mural will celebrate the boys’ time at the school. It is hoped that the mural will raise £21,000 for the children’s charity.

B&M Waste Services has agreed to donate £5000 to launch the appeal and is now urging other local businesses to help the brothers raise £21,000 for the charity.
David Curtis, Director at B&M Waste Services Ltd, who joined in with the painting at Mosslands, said that his organisation has been a lifelong supporter of Claire House.

David said: “This year, B&M Waste has made a commitment to donate £10,000 to Claire House.  The children’s hospice plays a huge role in the Wirral community and as a Wirral headquartered business we are committed to help raise funds for the charity. We were particularly touched by the story of the Lloyds brothers and we are delighted to help in launching their appeal.”

The boys chose to design the mural in the style of artist Michael Craig-Martin, a contemporary conceptual artist, because it allowed all three boys to produce their own separate parts of the design using digital software, which meant they did not need any physical assistance. It also allowed them to work collaboratively when putting all of their individual work together as a final design.

Sam Lloyd said: “Our design combines all of our four passions; Art, School, Football and Claire House and the wall will combine these into one lasting legacy. We were very excited to be asked to take part in this project and leave a parting gift to the school.  We were also incredibly grateful to B&M Waste who has donated £5000 to our appeal.”

Claire House Children’s Hospice provides respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life limiting medical conditions. All three of the Lloyd brothers attend Claire House regularly for respite care and hydro therapy sessions. Claire House also provides support to the extended Lloyd Family.

The mural will be unveiled during a reception at the school on Friday 4th July.
